Cooling of Neutron Stars with Color Superconducting Quark Cores

چکیده

We show that within a recently developed nonlocal chiral quark model the critical density for a phase transition to color superconducting quark matter under neutron star conditions can be low enough for these phases to occur in compact star configurations with masses below 1.3 M⊙. We study the cooling of these objects in isolation for different values of the gravitational mass and argue that, if the quark matter phase would allow unpaired quarks, the corresponding hybrid stars would cool too fast. The comparison with observational data puts tight constraints on possible color superconducting quark matter phases. Possible candidates with diquark gaps of the order of 10 keV 1 MeV such as the ”2SC+X” and the color spin locking (CSL) phase are presented.

Cooling of Hybrid Neutron Stars and Hypothetical Self-bound Objects with Superconducting Quark Cores

We study the consequences of superconducting quark cores (with color-flavor-locked phase as representative example) for evolution of temperature profiles and the cooling curves in quark-hadron hybrid stars and in hypothetical self-bounded objects having no a hadron shell (quark core neutron stars). The quark gaps are varied from 0 to ∆q = 50 MeV. For hybrid stars we find time scales of 1÷5, 5÷1...

Cooling of Neutron Stars with Color Superconducting Quark Cores

We show that within a recently developed nonlocal, chiral quark model the critical densities for a phase transition to color superconducting quark matter under neutron star conditions can be low enough that these phases occur in compact star configurations with masses below 1.4 M⊙. We study the cooling of these objects in isolation for different values of the gravitational mass and thus differe...

Impact of Cfl Quark Matter on the Cooling of Compact Stars

The cooling mechanism of compact stars with quark cores in the color-flavor locked phase is discussed. It is argued that the high thermal conductivity of the quark core plays a key role in the stellar cooling. It implies that the cooling time of compact stars with color-flavor locked quark cores is similar to that of ordinary neutron stars, unless the star is almost completely made of color-fla...

Novel phases and transitions in quark matter

We analyze the phases of dense quark matter at nonzero quark masses. We map out the phase diagrams for charged quark matter as well as charge neutral matter containing leptons. We find that the Color Flavor Locked (CFL) phase is unlikely to ever occur in nature. Various color superconducting meson condensed phases may play a role in neutron star cores, however, in agreement with the analysis of...

Magnetic fields within color superconducting neutron star cores

We discuss the Meissner effect for a color superconductor formed by cold dense quark matter. Though color and ordinary electromagnetism are broken in a color superconductor, there is a linear combination of the photon and a gluon that remains massless. Consequently, a color superconducting region may be penetrated by an external magnetic field. We show that at most a small fraction of the magne...
